In short

This website sets no cookies, uses no tracking services and loads no third-party content (fonts are served from our own server too). All calculations run directly in your browser; your inputs are not sent to us. We count page views ourselves with simple statistics on our own server (see below).

If you choose the unit km or mi, your browser remembers that choice in its local storage (localStorage). It never leaves your device and can be deleted in your browser settings.

Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by Strato AG, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin. When you open a page, the host processes technically necessary data such as your IP address, date and time, the requested address, referrer and browser type in server log files. This serves the secure and stable operation of the website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). A data processing agreement is in place with the host.

If you open a shared link containing calculation values (e.g. ?t=3000), those values are part of the address and therefore also appear in the log files.

Our own visitor statistics

To understand which calculators are used, we count page views with self-hosted statistics on our own web space. No cookies are set and no third-party services are involved. For each page view we store: the page, date and hour, the domain name of the website you came from, the page's language and unit, your approximate country (derived from your browser's time zone), device type and browser family, and certain actions such as printing a pace band or switching the unit.

So that several page views by the same person on one day count as one visitor, we create a checksum from your IP address, your browser's identifier and a random value that is newly generated every day. The IP address itself is not stored. The random value is deleted the next day; after that the checksum can neither be traced back to you nor linked to visits on other days. We also use the browser identifier to flag automated access (bots) so it doesn't distort the statistics.

The legal basis is our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used and improving it (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Since the checksum can no longer be attributed to anyone once the daily value has been deleted, and no IP addresses are stored, the stored entries no longer contain personal data after that.

Your rights

You have the right of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection (Art. 15–21 GDPR). You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.

The legally binding version of this policy is the German version.
