Pace (min/mile) = 60 ÷ speed (mph)
Example: 6 mph → 60 ÷ 6 = 10 minutes per mile, a 10:00 pace. For odd values, convert the decimal part to seconds: 60 ÷ 7 = 8.57 min → 0.57 × 60 = 34 s → 8:34 per mile.
The other way round: mph = 60 ÷ pace in minutes. A 9:30 mile is 9.5 minutes, 60 ÷ 9.5 = 6.3 mph. Switch the unit at the top to “km” and the converter works with km/h and min/km.
There's no air resistance on a treadmill, so the same pace is a little easier than outdoors. A study by Jones and Doust (1996) showed that a 1% incline matches the energy cost of running outside well – at least at speeds between about 7 and 11 mph.
Divide 60 by your speed in mph. 6 mph gives 60 ÷ 6 = 10:00 per mile, 8 mph gives 7:30 per mile.
6 mph is a 10:00 pace per mile. A 5K at that speed takes about 31 minutes.
7.5 mph is a 8:00 pace per mile – a solid steady-run pace for many recreational runners.
A 9:00 mile is 6.67 mph.
